If you just want to sit back and relax, get a massage, do some Yoga, or just surf your brains out, then Balian is the place to be! Itís about 65 km from Kuta (1.5 hr drive) located in West Bali. You wonít find any annoying vendors or hair braiders here, just really friendly villagers going about there everyday lives!

Balian itself is surrounded by beauty. Towering coastal cliffs with a lush green countryside. The local cafes are a great place to sit and watch the Balian surf as well as put back few cold sunset beers.

For surfers, Balian Beach offers one of Bali's most consistent waves. This river mouth break offers lefts and rights which are usually two to three feet bigger than in Kuta. Balian is 25 minutes from the left-hander at Medewi. There are other unknown spots within the vicinity for the more adventurous surfers. Youíll have to find those on your own!

If you are interested in Kite surfing in Bali, then Balian could be the place for you. Over the past few years more and more people are discovering Balian as a Kite surfing destination. Things To Know


  • There are NO ATMís in Balian, so come prepared with local currency
  • Closet ATM is 30 minutes away in the town of Tabanan
  • There are NO official money changers in Balian, but a few hotels will do it at a poor exchange rate. Best to change money in Kuta, Seminyak, or Kerobokan.
  • There is a very small local store which has minimal food items as well as a fruit & Veggie market. Best to stop in Kuta or Seminyak if you want more of a food shopping selection.
  • Transport from Kuta to Balian is about Rp 450,000 – Rp 500,000 (1.5 hour, 65km)
  • Transport from DPS Airport to Balian is about Rp 550,000 – Rp 600,000 (2 hours)
